Lindsay Lohan Brexit Twitter is the best Twitter

As the results of Britain’s historic vote on whether to leave the European Union began to trickle in this evening, tense poll watchers on social media were treated to a rather bizarre yet remarkably delightful surprise: It turns out that adored child star turned tabloid enfant terrible Lindsay Lohan is really, really passionate about Brexit:

As one Twitter user helpfully reminded us, this is not the first time that the star of such classics as Mean Girls, The Parent Trap, and Herbie: Fully Loaded has taken to social media to weigh in on a major international news story, seemingly at random:

As Ahmad Al-shathry notes, Vox previously covered Lohan’s decision to take to Instagram to mourn the passing of Saudi King Abdullah:

In (somewhat mangled) Arabic, no less.

As Max Fisher wrote in that post, “It turns out that Lindsay Lohan was quite close with a well-connected member of a wealthy Saudi family: Mohammed al-Turki.”

Al-Turki is a young, handsome, well-known film producer, so it wasn’t actually as random as it seemed that the young starlet was posting about the death of the ruler of Saudi Arabia on Instagram.

And on further investigation, Lohan’s intense interest in the Brexit vote isn’t perhaps as random as it seems, either. That’s because, as reported in People magazine, Lindsay now lives in London with her rich Russian boyfriend Egor Tarabasov and, according to an unnamed source quoted in the People article, “has no interest in returning to L.A.”

Since Lohan has apparently decided to make Britain her home, it makes sense that she would be interested in the outcome of one of the most historic votes in Britain’s history.

But it’s still pretty funny.
