Gmail, Google’s widely used email service, has had intermittent availability for many users over the past hour. The company gave a not terribly informative statement this afternoon: “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly.” A spokeswoman said she couldn’t confirm that Google+ is down, though it obviously is for some users as well. (Personally, I’m getting the Google+ error message “There was an error. Please try again later. That’s all we know.”) Google posts updates about application availability here. In a bit of serendipity, members of the Google site reliability team are hosting a pre-planned Q&A on Reddit right now.
