An upcoming device called Navdy — which promises to let people more safely use their phones while driving, via a transparent dashboard display controlled by hand gestures and voice commands — has been enthusiastically embraced. There have already been more than $3 million in $299 preorders, plus investors including Upfront Ventures put up a jumbo $6.5 million seed round that’s being announced today. The device itself is supposed to ship next year.
