Recorded music has largely been a “passive experience” in the past, Kirk said.
“You could just sit there and listen to it,” he said. “Pop stars came out and were super entertaining. Why make music when they can?”
Mobile and the Internet, however, have made music more “participatory and collaborative,” Kirk said.
