- Shortly after noon on Thursday, the House of Representatives passed a procedural vote to pave the way for quick approval of a bill funding most of the government through fall 2015.
- The 214-212 vote on a rule to consider the bill, with no Democrats voting “yes,” was dramatic and closer than expected. “No” votes had a slight edge for a time, especially after two Democrats initially voting yes switched to no. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI), who is leaving the House after losing his primary in 2014, provided the final vote the House GOP needed to pass the rule. Here’s a list of Republicans who voted no.
- But though the action was messy, the outcome was never really in doubt. The House will likely pass the final bill later today, and then Senate Democrats will have to decide whether the deal Harry Reid negotiated with John Boehner is worth voting for.
