Former Apple Executive Richard Kerris Heads to Mobile App Ad Startup

Richard Kerris, a marketing executive whose resume includes stops at Apple, HP and Nokia, is joining Get It Mobile, a startup focused on the fast-growing app ad business. Kerris will become the company’s chief marketing officer.

Get It specializes in “app install” ads, a market that didn’t exist a few years ago and now generates billions by helping app developers distribute their software to mobile devices. Get It makes money by helping advertisers buy the ads via automated software on platforms like Google’s AdMob — but not Facebook, the biggest market for these ads right now.

It’s worth noting that Apple, where Kerris worked for six years on the company’s marketing team (he is married to Natalie Kerris, who has a top job in Apple’s PR group), isn’t in the app install ad business yet. But Apple did just announce that it is getting into the automated ad business, and listed Get It as one of its partners.

Get It Mobile hired Kerris by acquiring his Kinetic Minds consulting firm, which he co-founded with Kevin Hague; Hague will become an adviser to Get It.
