Dropbox has filled a long-standing gap in its executive suite with the hire of Arden Hoffman, who will run human resources and recruiting for the online backup company this week. In Dropbox parlance, her official title is VP of People.

She arrives at Dropbox at a time when it has 1,000 employees, having doubled in both of the past two years.
Hoffman comes from Google , where she held multiple human resources executive roles, including head of people operations for the company’s marketing and global brand sales teams. She previously spent eight years at Goldman Sachs.

The company just opened an office in Seattle this week and plans to open offices in London and Paris next year. So yes, it makes a lot of sense to put someone in charge of people — which had previously been one of the wide-ranging responsibilities of general counsel Ramsey Homsany.
Hoffman will report to Dropbox COO Dennis Woodside, who also came to Dropbox from Google (he most recently ran its Motorola subsidiary before it was acquired by Lenovo). Woodside told Re/code that Hoffman is “one of the most respected HR executives in the industry.”
Dropbox has 300 million registered users and is valued at some $10 billion.
