Cash of Clans: Supercell Reports Huge Revenue Jump in 2013

$892 million in 2013.

Clash of Clans / Supercell

No surprise here: Supercell, the company behind the hit games Clash of Clans and Hay Day, saw some big money in 2013.

The Finnish mobile game studio’s revenue increased nearly ninefold year over year, from $101 million in 2012 to $892 million in 2013. EBITDA climbed from $51 million to $464 million last year.

The company was founded in June 2010 in Helsinki, Finland. Last October, China’s SoftBank and GungHo — maker of the hit Japanese mobile title Puzzle & Dragons — invested $1.53 billion in Supercell to acquire 51 percent of the company. That acquisition pushed gaming M&A value for the year to $5.6 billion total.

Being the maker of two hot mobile games has earned the company some recent unwanted attention. On Monday, a Syrian hacker allegedly broke into Supercell’s administrative panel via a compromised email address. The hacker then shared screenshots indicating that, on one day this month alone, the company may have grossed at least $5.15 million.

Supercell also used its financials to confirm that its third mobile game, Boom Beach, would officially launch in March. The game has been in soft-launch for testing in Canada and Australia since late last year.
