Dennis Woodside, a long-time Google executive who shepherded the company’s Motorola Mobility acquisition as CEO for the last year and a half, will become chief operating officer at the cloud storage company Dropbox, as was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Woodside’s departure comes at the end of an era, as Google just announced it would sell Motorola to Lenovo for $2.91 billion.
He is a significant hire at Dropbox, which continues to be run by its co-founder and CEO Drew Houston. Woodside had been at Google since 2003, with roles in sales, business operations and partnerships. Dropbox just raised a pile of money and is pushing into enterprise sales.
Meanwhile, a source familiar with Google’s plans said that without Woodside, the transitional leadership at Motorola will be split between Google Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora, who is executive chairman of Motorola’s operating board overseeing strategy, and Jonathan Rosenberg, the former Google product management head who was tapped to help with the original Motorola acquisition and is playing the role of COO.
