Early this month, a Spanish court convicted a 21-year-old woman of inciting terrorism through her use of Twitter. Alba González Camacho’s case was covered heavily in the Spanish language press but gained broader notice on Sunday after the New York Times published a story about the ruling. In various tweets, Camacho pleaded for a dormant terrorist organization to kill politicians, including Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. She was sentenced to a year in prison, but the punishment was suspended. Last month, a U.S. federal court judge sentenced an Ohio man to 16 months in prison for threatening over Twitter to kill President Barack Obama.
