Google Bulks Up Security for Android Phones

At a time when security vulnerabilities are disturbingly prominent, Google said it is bulking up security for Android phones to provide users more protection.

The current “verify apps” feature on Android smartphones already checks for malware and security problems when people install applications outside of the Google Play store. Google is adding another layer of protection to continually check devices to ensure all the apps are well behaved.

Users will see warnings as a result of this new capability, Google said. Few people choose to continue installing an application after receiving such a red flag (fewer than 0.18 percent, in the case of a warning from the “verify apps” feature), the company said.
