Netflix confirms that it has signed an “interconnect” deal with Verizon, which is designed to make it easier for the streaming service to get its videos to Verizon’s broadband customers.
The two companies haven’t released details, but in February Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said he wanted to strike a similar deal to the one Netflix reached with Comcast. That deal has Netflix paying Comcast directly to get its videos into Comcast’s networks.
“We have reached an interconnect arrangement with Verizon that we hope will improve performance for our joint customers over the coming months,” Netflix PR rep wrote in an email.
Some observers thought that Netflix, which has been complaining about the Comcast deal for the last month, was doing so in hopes of avoiding signing similar deals with other broadband providers. Scratch that theory.
