Apple on Tuesday updated its MacBook Air line with a slight increase in processor speed and also shaved $100 from the price tag.

With the price cut, the 11-inch MacBook Air starts at $899, while the 13-inch model begins at $999, each with a 1.4GHz processor and 128GB of flash memory. Faster processors and additional storage options are also available.
Mac sales have outperformed the PC for some time. Last quarter Apple sold 4.1 million Macs; that was a 5 percent year-over-year increase amid an overall computer market that dropped 4 percent, according to IDC.
However, the rather modest update means that, nearly five months into the year, Apple still has yet to make a major product introduction.
That should change, if not sooner, when the company holds its annual developer conference, WWDC, in San Francisco at the beginning of June.
CEO Tim Cook has promised a year of significant product introductions, including expansion into new product categories this year.
