After a brief social media uproar, Nintendo has formally apologized for seemingly dismissing same-sex relationships in an upcoming game. “We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life,” the company said in an online statement. It had previously responded to a petition for gay recognition in the new life-simulation game by saying that offering more than opposite-sex relationships would be a “form of social commentary,” which critics said was itself an act of commentary. If it releases another Tomodachi game, Nintendo wrote, it will strive to be “more inclusive, and better represent all players.”
