Mozilla Names Chris Beard CEO

A foundation veteran takes over as CEO.

Mozilla Foundation

The open source Mozilla Corporation named Chris Beard as its new CEO.

Beard had served as CEO on an interim basis following the departure of Brandan Eich. Eich’s tenure as CEO was cut short earlier April after a controversy over his political contributions to a campaign against gay marriage in California.

As the organization said in a blog post, Beard is a Mozilla veteran having jointed the organization in 2004 just before it shipped the first Firefox browser. He also spent a year as Executive-in-Residence at the venture capital firm Greylock Partners.

Katharina Borchert, CEO of Spiegel online and member of the corporation’s board praised Beard as the right person to lead the organization: “He understands the importance of the Mozilla community and has a strong product vision.”

Reid Hoffman, Chairman of LinkedIn and also a member of Mozilla’s board called him “…The right CEO for Mozilla, as the organization, community, and movement for open technologies.”
