Motorola Plans September 4 Chicago Launch for Moto 360, More

The company had promised its Android Wear-based smartwatch would launch this summer.

Motorola has scheduled a Sept. 4 launch event for Chicago, where the company is expected to launch its Moto 360 watch as well as other devices

An invitation from the company featured a brief glimpse of a watch icon, as well as icons for an ear, a phone with an X on it and a phone with a G on it. (Motorola’s two main phones are the Moto X and Moto G.) Motorola had promised that the Moto 360 would launch this summer.

It has been a year since the Moto X hit the market, so the company would seem to be due for a successor. Images have leaked of what is said to be the X2 or X+1 or whatever Motorola ends up calling it. The invite also appears to suggest an update to the Moto G and some new accessories.

Motorola’s event adds to an already crowded week for device launches, with Samsung slated to launch the next Galaxy Note and other goodies on Sept. 3. Microsoft’s Lumia unit has an event planned for Berlin on Sept. 4, while Apple has its iPhone launch for Sept. 9.

Plus, it’s an interesting time for Motorola, what with the company in the process of being sold by Google to Lenovo.
