Facebook has reached 100 million monthly active users in Africa, meaning half of Africa’s Internet users are visiting the social network each month. The vast majority — 80 percent — are doing so on mobile devices. User growth in emerging regions like Africa has been a priority for Facebook. The company spends lots of time adjusting its mobile app so it operates under weak network conditions and with older phones, which are popular in areas where Wi-Fi access is still new.
