Apple said it began the New Year with nearly half a billion dollars in purchases through its App Store in the first week of January, setting a record for billings. In fact, January 1 marked the single biggest day for app and in-app purchases. The App Store, together with Apple’s iTunes, iBooks Store and AppleCare, accounted for about 10 percent of the company’s revenues in fiscal 2014.
