This Christmas, Netflix and Chill With Bill Murray

The stucco-faced funnyman is outdoing himself yet again with a holiday special too awesome for network TV.

No, seriously, who’s had a weirder career than Bill Murray? And can you really tell me you’d want to Netflix and chill on Christmas with anyone else?

The stucco-faced comedian ping-ponged from “Saturday Night Live” to “Ghostbusters” and “Tootsie,” vanished from the public eye for a few years to wander Manhattan’s Upper West Side, then blossomed back into relevance by working with alpha-hipster indie film directors Jim Jarmusch, Wes Anderson and Sofia Coppola, all the while riding a wave of social media affection for his pop-up appearances at random bachelor parties, kickball games and karaoke rooms.

And now, he’s recreating the excitement of waiting for Santa Claus with the creation of a Christmas special for grownups, packed with guest stars like Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, George Clooney, Chris Rock, Rashida Jones, George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Michael Cera, George Clooney and — wait for it — reuniting Murray with David Johansen, his co-star in “Scrooged,” which was also a Christmas movie.

It’s like he’s been planning it all along.

The Netflix production, called “A Very Murray Christmas,” re-teams him with Coppola, who last worked with him on “Lost in Translation,” a triumph for both.

Bottom line: The obvious corollary to this special is Murray’s nightclub-crooning SNL character, who belted his way through made-up lyrics to the “Star Wars” theme — but that character has grown up as surely as Murray himself has, in a holiday tale of true friends who stand by you when a blizzard seems to have thrown your party plans into the coal chute.
