Yes, Feed the Trolls, Says Fox Sports Host Katie Nolan

“They just don’t have the balls to put their face and name on anything they say.”

Katie Nolan is an Internet star credited with bringing a “sneaky feminism” to sports. She also happens to have a TV show on a national network: “Garbage Time with Katie Nolan,” on Fox Sports 1.

In an interview with Peter Kafka on the latest episode of “Re/code Decode,” Nolan explained that her rapid rise from blogging on Tumblr to making YouTube videos to having a TV show has confounded some in the sports establishment.

“People are confused when you work for a national sports outlet and they’ve never seen you on a local affiliate,” Nolan said.

She also talked about her track record of fighting back against anonymous Internet commenters who don’t like her politics, or simply the fact that she is a woman.

“They’re real people, they just don’t have the balls to put their face and name on anything they say,” Nolan said.

Re/code Decode” is now twice a week. Kara Swisher will be back in this space on Monday for an interview with Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, and Peter Kafka will be back next Thursday to talk to Medium CEO Ev Williams. To be among the first to hear those interviews, click here to subscribe.

And if you like this show, you should also check out “Re/code Replay,” an archive of audio content from our events and interviews by Kara Swisher, Walt Mossberg, Peter Kafka, Ina Fried and more. To subscribe to that, click right here.
