Apple’s iOS Takes Slender Sales Lead Over Android in U.S. for First Time Since 2012

Sales of Apple’s iOS devices overtook Android in the U.S. for the first time since this time in 2012, according to the latest research from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. Holiday sales of Apple’s mobile devices — led by its hot-selling iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones — gave the mobile operating system the slightest of edges over Google’s rival Android platform in the quarter that ended in December, 47.7 percent versus 47.6 percent. The projections are based on monthly information the researcher collects from its panel of 20,000 consumers. For the record, Android still holds the lead when it comes to installed base of mobile devices in the U.S. and worldwide.
