With four wins, including Record of the Year, Sam Smith had a great night at the Grammys. He turned it into a touchstone for gay people everywhere.

At the end of his acceptance speech, Smith took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the true inspiration for his album: the man he fell in love with, who broke his heart.

“I want to thank the man who this record is about. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys!” Smith said.

Smith recently opened up with Ellen about his sexuality and his journey.

His recently released video for “Lay Me Down” features a gay wedding ceremony. Here’s what Smith had to say about it on Facebook:

This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country.
