Square just announced the acquisition of Kili Technology, a Toronto-based startup that makes computer processors designed to help devices accept new forms of payments, such as those through NFC technology. About 30 employees are joining Square in the deal, the terms of which were not disclosed. Square has not yet released a device that works with NFC payment methods such as Apple Pay, so Kili could play a part in those plans.
