August, maker of an Yves Behar-designed, Bluetooth-equipped door lock, has closed a giant round of funding as it looks to expand into new products. Bessemer Venture Partners, Comcast Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures are leading the $38 million dollar Series B funding round, bringing August’s total funding to date to $50 million. Previous investors include Maveron, Cowboy Ventures and SoftTech VC. The August “smart” lock launched last fall and received a favorable review from Re/code’s Walt Mossberg — though it’s not without its competition in the smart-home space. August co-founder Jason Johnson says the company plans to expand its footprint in retail stores throughout the U.S. and is also developing new products for the smart home.
