Apple Watch Chief Jeff Williams to Speak at Code

Few know that two years ago Tim Cook tapped Senior VP of Operations Jeff Williams to lead the Apple Watch project.

Apple

We are excited to announce that Jeff Williams, Apple’s senior vice president of operations and the man who oversees the development of the Apple Watch, will join us as a speaker at our second Code Conference.

Some know that Williams, who reports to CEO Tim Cook, leads the team of people around the world who manage Apple’s complex supply chain and its global service and support organization.

But few know that two years ago Cook tapped him to also manage the development of the Apple Watch, the first new product category the tech giant has entered in five years. Williams is also the one driving the company’s health initiatives, including ResearchKit, Apple’s effort to bolster medical and health research.

Williams joined Apple in 1998 as head of worldwide procurement and in 2004 he was named vice president of operations. Since 2010, he has led worldwide operations for all products. Prior to joining Apple, he worked for IBM.

Other Code speakers announced previously include: GM CEO Mary Barra; Pivotal CEO Paul Maritz; BuzzFeed’s CEO Jonah Peretti and editor-in-chief Ben Smith; Xiaomi’s international head Hugo Barra; Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure; and Reddit interim CEO Ellen Pao.

Also: GoPro CEO and founder Nick Woodman; Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel; Airbnb’s Brian Chesky; Oculus VR’s Brendan Iribe; Kleiner Perkins partner Mary Meeker; CBS CEO Les Moonves; Google business lead Omid Kordestani; Target CEO Brian Cornell; and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

As usual, the event — held May 26 to 28 in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. — sold out quickly. But, as always, Re/code will be putting up extensive video clips of the interviews immediately and the entire sessions soon after.

Best of all, we still have a few more speakers to announce to round out this amazing group of tech and media heavyweights.
