Former MoPub CEO Jim Payne Lands at Accel Partners

Almost a year after leaving Twitter, former MoPub CEO Jim Payne has found a new home.

Payne has joined Accel Partners as an entrepreneur in residence, where he’ll advise the firm’s investment companies and begin working on a stealth startup of his own, he tells Re/code. Payne, who sold his mobile ad exchange company MoPub to Twitter for $350 million back in 2013, has a long history with Accel. General Partner Rich Wong, who helped recruit Payne to the EIR program, was an early investor in MoPub and also invested in AdMob, where Payne worked on product before starting his own company.

Payne won’t share many details on the new product, but did hint that it has to do with mobile video. He has spent the last nine months or so “decompressing” away from the tech world (which also included a little skiing). “Toward the middle of the summer it was pretty clear to me that what I wanted to do was build another company,” Payne said. “It’s really fun to be back at the early stage.”
