Lip readers, get to work.

The biggest mystery of the 2016 Golden Globes is what Ricky Gervais said to Mel Gibson.

During the show, there was an awkward moment between Gervais and Gibson during the introduction to a Mad Max clip. Gervais mentioned that he’d said some unsavory things about Gibson in the past, which helped him earn the reputation for being a loose cannon and, well, a sexy pick to host the Golden Globes.

Then Gibson came onstage and unleashed a Gervais-is-butt-cancer joke that sounded like Gibson had been sitting on it for years. Gervais then returned to the stage, and whoever was manning the soundboard at NBC basically bleeped Gervais until he left.

What did he say? Is there a lip reader in the crowd who can deconstruct this mystery for us? How filthy was it?

Everyone in audience seemed shocked, bursting into nervous laughter. Gibson kinda flinched.

Their interaction was awkward. It was weird. It’s possible that it was totally staged. And it was one of the most exciting things to happen during the 2016 Golden Globes.

Update: Here’s an uncensored clip of Gervais’s comment:
