Apple Music Tops 10 Million Subscribers

The service launched in June.

Apple Music has surpassed the 10 million subscriber mark. Rival Spotify said last June that it has 20 million paid subscribers for its streaming music service.

Apple launched its service in June with a free trial. In October, Chief Executive Tim Cook announced that it had converted 6.5 million people to paying subscribers, with a total of 15 million users.

The news, which was first reported by the Financial Times, comes after Apple extended the service to users of rival Android devices. The $10 monthly service launched in more than 100 countries, and many in the music industry hope that its growth will offset a declining digital download business.

Spotify still dwarfs Apple in subscribers, with 20 million people paying a monthly fee, and 75 million active users.

Apple declined comment.
