Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Confirms Key Executive Departures

It’s official.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey confirmed the departure of four key executives late Sunday night, including VP of media Katie Stanton, VP of product Kevin Weil and VP of engineering Alex Roetter. Re/code reported earlier on Sunday that all three were planning to leave the company.

Twitter’s VP of human resources, Brian “Skip” Schipper, is also departing, according to Dorsey’s tweet, and Jason Toff, head of the standalone video app Vine, announced his departure to Google in a separate tweet Sunday night.

In his post, Dorsey said that he wanted to announce the departures because of “inaccurate press rumors” from earlier in the day. We assume his issue has to do with why these execs are leaving. A number of outlets reported that they were fired, but Dorsey says that’s not true. All four “chose to leave,” he wrote. Stanton also penned a Medium post in which she wrote that she resigned to spend more time with family.

“The world needs Twitter and while I will turn in my badge in a few weeks, I will keep rooting (and tweeting!) for Twitter’s continued success,” she wrote.

Dorsey did provide some details on how the vacant job responsibilities will be divvied up, at least temporarily. COO Adam Bain will shoulder much of the load when it comes to media and HR. CTO Adam Messinger will handle consumer product and engineering. It’s safe to assume they’ll find more permanent replacements down the road.

Dorsey also wants people to know that these holes do not mean the product is going to suffer.

“I will be partnering with [Messinger] day and night to make sure we’re building the right experiences,” he said.
