The Powerball Hits $900 Million, Approaches Unicorn Status Ahead of Saturday’s Drawing

There’s never a bad time to win the lottery, but right now is undoubtedly the best time.

Want to feel like a ridiculously successful tech mogul without doing any actual work? Simple. All you have to do is win the Powerball lottery Saturday night!

Of course, there’s never a bad time to win the lottery, but right now is undoubtedly the best time to cash a winning ticket. The Powerball, offered in 44 states and two U.S. territories, has reached $900 million, the largest in U.S history. If no one claims the lucky number combination for tonight’s drawing, the pot will jump to well over $1 billion for next Wednesday’s drawing, according to ABC.

That would grant the Powerball unicorn status in Silicon Valley, despite a lousy website and a horrible mobile strategy.

A $900 million pot means a $558 million payout, according to the Powerball site. Not too shabby, although CNNMoney estimates that the winner will actually walk away with a measly $348 million after taxes (thanks, Obama).

If you still feel like playing, the numbers will be announced around 11 pm ET on Saturday, so clear your calendars.
