Time for a compare-and-contrast from two of the executives charged with growing their respective publishers.

BuzzFeed didn’t exist a few years ago. Now it has a giant audience.

The New York Times has been around since 1851. It has a pretty big audience, too — but it would like to get bigger, and faster, while retaining its authority.

Time for a compare-and-contrast from two of the execs charged with growing their respective publishers: Meet BuzzFeed’s Dao Nguyen, whose title is publisher but who is really the one who runs all of all the company’s tech; and the Times’ Alex MacCallum, who is responsible for both audience development and video at the paper.

Both women talked with my colleague Jason Del Rey at Code/Media last week about the challenges they are facing and the strategies they are using. By definition, those things are in flux, so this video of their session is useful right now as a state-of-the-art publishing playbook.
