The White House Office of Management and Budget has unveiled the president’s budget request for fiscal year 2017 (which begins this coming October 1). The request marks the eighth final budget put together by President Obama during his time in office.

As announced in a “sneak preview” before the budget’s official unveiling, it includes a number of new proposals, including food stamps during the summer for students receiving free and reduced-price school lunches; changing the “Cadillac tax” on expensive health plans; offering new incentives for states to expand Medicaid; making retirement savings more portable; insuring unemployed people against reduced wages in new jobs; taxing oil to fund mass transit and other low-emissions infrastructure; and a $1 billion “moonshot” to fund research to end cancer.
