Should you upgrade to the new Fitbits?

Fitbit is trying to make its product line more diverse — but its latest activity trackers will look pretty familiar.
The newly announced Fitbit Flex 2 and Charge 2 are sequels, as their names suggest, to the Fitbit Flex and Charge, originally released in 2013 and 2014, respectively. On the latest Too Embarrassed to Ask, Recode’s Kara Swisher and The Verge’s Lauren Goode discussed what’s new and debated whether these new gadgets are worth an upgrade.
“It looks like something a court would put on you for misbehaving,” Kara said of the Charge 2, which boasts a larger display and the ability to track multiple types of exercise, including biking, treadmill and weight lifting.
On the new podcast, Kara and Lauren also discussed features like the Fitbit’s ability to help you meditate, how the broader wearable activity tracker market is doing and what wearables need to do to break through to more consumers.
“I call them Tamagotchis right now,” Lauren said. “They require so much of you and give you so little back.”
