The Standard is launching a Hotel Tonight competitor with 20 other hotels

The app will try to highlight experience over price.

Following in the footsteps of Hotel Tonight, Standard International, owner of the Standard hotels, is unveiling an app that will allow customers to book last-minute rooms at its hotels and others at the “lowest available price” on the same day as their stay.

The app is called One Night, and at launch will include about two dozen hotels in New York City and Los Angeles. In coming months, it plans to expand to a curated group of hotels in five other cities, including San Francisco and Chicago.

While Hotel Tonight stresses deals, One Night is avoiding words like “discount,” hoping that the app attracts customers who care about more than price.

“Finally, a travel partner that has designed a booking engine as beautiful as our hotel,” Daniel Entenberg, general manager at Gramercy Park Hotel, said in a press release. “One that showcases experience over price.”

One Night rates are updated daily at 3 pm. At launch, partner hotels include The Carlyle and Gramercy Park Hotel in New York and the Viceroy L’Ermitage Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.

Standard International will collect a booking fee for each transaction. A spokeswoman declined to provide details, but said the cut the company takes is smaller than that of the industry’s largest booking sites.
