Everyone in tech is thinking about cars and everyone in cars is thinking about tech. Which explains why Samsung bought Harman for $8 billion this year.

Harman has deep roots in the automotive industry — it provides entertainment, safety and security features in 50 million cars worldwide. And at the top of the org chart is Dinesh Paliwal, who has spent the last 10 years as the company’s CEO and stayed with Harman after the Samsung deal closed.

Under Paliwal, Harman has made a major push to deliver new features to vehicles via over-the-air updates. The company has signed up 17 automakers to use Harman’s technology and reaches 25 million vehicles. Next up: A focus on self-driving car tech.
