Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s first trailer is all about explosions and dinosaurs
And an old friend returns.

On Thursday, the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom dropped. There’s a giant angry volcano. There’s a massive chase scene fleeing said volcano. And, of course, there’s some glorious T. rex action.
Directed by J.A. Bayona, who most recently helmed 2016’s A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the follow-up to the completely silly, empty-calorie, but hugely successful dino-fest Jurassic World. That film introduced audiences to Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady, a dinosaur whisperer who could, with a series of clicks, command a small coven of velociraptors. Starring opposite Pratt was Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing, a buttoned-up executive (a sexist trope according to some critics) at the dinosaur park.
Fallen Kingdom is Bayona’s chance to build on that world, and an opportunity for those involved in the Jurassic World franchise to perhaps respond to the criticism levied against its predecessor — or maybe not, given that Jurassic World writer-director Colin Trevorrow, last seen getting fired from Star Wars IX, also co-wrote the Fallen Kingdom screenplay. At any rate, it’s definitely a chance for audiences to partake in the beloved summertime tradition of watching a Tyrannosaurus rex go absolutely bonkers on the people dumb enough to bring it back from extinction.
