Jon Stewart to the media: ‘Take up a hobby. I recommend journalism.’

Also: A good dirty joke about Trump and Breitbart.

Peter Kafka covered media and technology, and their intersection, at Vox. Many of his stories can be found in his Kafka on Media newsletter, and he also hosts the Recode Media podcast.

Remember the good old days, when Barack Obama was president and Jon Stewart was on TV every night?

Well, one of those guys isn’t coming back.

But Stewart is, eventually. HBO signed him up back in 2015, and last year the network said he would start an animated cable news parody show something something in time for the election.

If you missed that one, there’s a good reason. But now HBO says it will show up for real, sometime this spring. Probably.

Cut Stewart some slack, says his protégé John Oliver. “After you’ve worked at the pace he has, you just physically have to be able to do a year,” Oliver told Rolling Stone this month. “I mean, he’s working on things. So he’s publicly quiet, but he’s not privately quiet. He’s using his brain and working on stuff right now.”

In the meantime, here’s a reminder of what Stewart used to do, and still can: A 10-minute guest spot on Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” last night, where he eviscerates Donald Trump and the press.

Just kidding! Both Trump and the press are still extant today. But, this is excellent regardless:
