Blue Nile, one of the oldest online jewelers, has hired former Target executive Jason Goldberger as its new CEO.

Goldberger was most recently chief digital officer at Target, where he oversaw the company’s e-commerce operation for nearly four years. He left in September during a management shake-up that saw his responsibilities get folded under the role of the chief information officer.

At Seattle-based Blue Nile, Goldberger will be taking over a once pioneering online seller of engagement rings and other jewelry that was founded in 1999. In recent years, Blue Nile’s sales growth has slowed and the company was taken private earlier this year by an investor group led by Bain Capital Private Equity.

Still, Blue Nile sells around $500 million of jewelry each year and is profitable. Goldberger is replacing Harvey Kanter, who will remain on the company’s board as chairman.

Goldberger also spent time at Gilt Groupe, Hayneedle and Amazon for many years.

Watch Goldberger speak at Recode’s Code Commerce series last May.
