Health care open enrollment is here — and you probably have questions.

This week, we sought to elucidate some of the more confounding issues Americans encounter during this strange, baffling annual ritual. Among them:

  • Why you’re stuck with your employer’s health plan
  • Who thought flexible spending accounts were a good idea?
  • Why even Medicare can’t save you from open enrollment
  • Why dental insurance isn’t a scam — but isn’t really insurance either

Nevertheless, you’ll need to pick a health plan this fall — we have a guide for that too — because open enrollment is here to stay, thanks to a combination of inertia, complacency, and the influence of the health care industry.

As a thank-you to our recurring contributors (that’s you!), I’ll be answering questions about the American health care system, our stories, and how we reported them. Drop your questions in the comment box below and on Thursday, October 19, I’ll pop in to answer as many as I can.
